Why Gentricity Exists
Gentricity was founded on a straightforward observation: most solar companies try to serve everyone — residential, commercial, industrial — and end up serving no one particularly well. Commercial solar is a different discipline. The systems are larger, the financing is more complex, the stakes are higher, and the decision-makers need a different conversation than homeowners.
We chose to focus exclusively on commercial and agricultural solar because that's where we can deliver the most value. Every system we design, every relationship we build, and every hour of expertise we invest goes into one thing: helping Gauteng businesses take control of their energy costs.

Riaan Barkhuizen
Managing Director
B.Eng (Electrical & Electronic) — University of Pretoria
With over two decades in the electricity industry, Riaan brings deep engineering expertise and technical prowess to every Gentricity project. His career spans mega projects in the mining sector and solar PV technology since 2016. He has designed, installed, and commissioned over 10MWp of rooftop grid-tie solar projects, with involvement in prominent solar farms. His intimate knowledge of integrating generators with grid-tie solar and hybrid solar ventures, combined with expertise in commercial-scale battery energy storage, ensures Gentricity remains at the forefront of sustainable energy solutions.
Albert van Niekerk
Co-Founder & Managing Partner
B.Com Actuarial Science — University of Pretoria
Albert combines an entrepreneurial track record with hands-on solar project management. Before Gentricity, he founded Concilium Management — a venture in crowd-funding and fractional ownership that raised R80 million — and built African Frontier Holdings into a vertically integrated FMCG group with R1 billion+ annual turnover and 1,800+ staff. At Gentricity, Albert is involved in every project from first conversation to final connection, bringing financial acumen and business-building experience to the solar sector.
